Kristen Bretz

freshwater ecology and biogeochemistry

​I study how headwater stream networks interact with the atmosphere and forested valleys in western Virginia and North Carolina. I'm interested in how stream discontinuities and intermittencies influence carbon dioxide and methane fluxes, and what happens to carbon as streams expand and contract under different flow amounts.
